KANSAS CITY, Mo. — It feels like it’s the never-ending construction project, but after six months of work the huge bridge re-decking and repair project in and out of the downtown loop is almost finished!
A large portion of the $35 million project will wrap up on December 9 and most of the orange cones and barrels will be removed.
And after December 18 all lanes should be back open on I-35 over southwest boulevard.
Since April there’s been significant work on I-35 all the way from I-35 from the Cambridge Circle in Kansas City, Kan., to the southwest corner of the downtown loop. Mo-DOT knows it’s been an inconvenience but said some of the bridges were built in the 1940s and have never been redecked. Waiting any longer risked having to make emergency repairs which would mean even longer closures or worse — a significant failure.
Despite the prolonged inconvenience, MoDot said the construction project is on schedule.
