Independence Police Want the Stealing to Stop

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — One of the biggest crimes in Independence is theft of items inside motor vehicles. The Independence Police Department is taking extra measures to remind the public to Look, Keep, Lock. It may seem like common sense for those leaving their car unattended but the signs now serve as an extra reminder.

“They simply serve as a reminder to people to take some simple steps when they come out, a very important last minute reminder,” said Officer John Syme of the Independence Police Department.

Across the city, the police have put up 10 signs on city property and currently looking to businesses to put up signs in retail parking lot ahead of the holiday shopping season.

“This time of the year, larcenies for motor vehicles is our biggest concern. it’s one of our biggest crime concerns in independence,” said Syme.
