Inmate kills cellmate with toilet paper

Scott Alexander Greenberg

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — An inmate died in a Florida jail over the weekend and his cellmate is accused of killing him — with toilet paper.

The incident happened Sunday at the Pinellas County jail.

According to the sheriff’s office, Kelly Damon Harding, 48, was found unconscious on the floor of his cell and was later declared dead at the hospital.

So, what caused the man to die?

An emergency room doctor found wet toilet paper shoved down Harding’s throat. The man also had “injuries consistent with strangulation,” a news release said.

Detectives said Harding’s cellmate, Scott Greenberg, 28, allegedly murdered him, the Sun-Sentinel newspaper reported, based on interviews with other inmates.

Greenberg is charged with first degree murder. The 28-year-old was in jail for murder charges in 2012.
