LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. — Jackson County Missouri Republicans held a caucus on Saturday. So far, there have been no declared winners from Missouri caucuses.
Media reports indicate Ron Paul supporters won the majority of delegates on Saturday. More than 1,000 Jackson County Republicans packed a Lee’s Summit auditorium.
“I just want to be a part of this process,” said Lee’s Summit resident Scott Austin. “This is the first time I’ve been to a caucus.”
Organizers will tell you it’s not always easy but they say the more the merrier. They say bigger numbers translate into more interest in the process and the candidates.
“This is democracy in action,” said Bug Hertzog with the Jackson County Republican Committee. “I think this is a very healthy thing.”
Unlike Kansas, there is no straw poll in Missouri so no candidate wins. Instead, delegates are slated and those delegates will then be part of the process locally, district and state wide then nationally. That leads up to he the National Republican Convention.
