OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City began the celebration of Hanukkah a few nights early, by spinning hundreds of dreidels. The group wanted to try to break the world record of the most dreidels ever spun at once.
Organizers estimated they spun somewhere between 500 and 550 dreidels on Sunday. The group doesn’t think they broke the world record, but they say the challenge was just for fun. The challenge marked the final event for the center’s 100 year celebration.
“There are more smiles, there’s more friends, there’s more stories, there’s more memories,” said Shanny Morgenstern, with the JCC. “This is just the first 100 years, now we’re looking to the future.”
Jacob Schreiber, the center’s CEO, said its members are stronger than ever, following a deadly shooting spree that happened at the center in April.
“When your community is your community you don’t just walk away when a tragedy happens,” he told FOX 4 on Sunday. “You get stronger and I think that’s what happened.”
