An Australian family is crediting wild kangaroos for keeping their son alive.
On Saturday the Kruger family was enjoying a picnic at Deep Creek Conservation Park when 7-year-old Simon wandered off, intent on picking flowers for his mother. He spotted a wallaby and followed it into the bush. And got lost.
He spent the night in the bush, surviving near-freezing temperatures. Meanwhile police and rescue helicopters were searching for him. They eventually spotted him from the air and plucked him from the wilderness.
The little bushman told his father he slept with kangaroos.
“[He said] a kangaroo came closer to him and ate the flowers from him, and the kangaroo fell asleep next to him,” Simon’s father, Etienne Kruger, told 7News. “I think God sent a kangaroo to keep him warm.”
His mother said his jacket smelled like “bush and kangaroo.” After a good night’s rest and a shower, his mother said Simon acts as if nothing happened.
