Kansas City barber shop owner troubled that former customer committed brazen robbery

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A local barber shop owner plans to step up security after a terrifying robbery at his shop. He says what`s most troubling is that one of the robbers is no stranger to the barber shop.

Police say they have limited information about the two men who committed Friday’s crime. FOX 4 stopped by “Man`s Plaze” barber shop near 75th and Troost. Owner Khristopher Mann says a busy Friday just before closing came to an unsettling end last week.

“Two gentlemen come in. We probably had about three or four clients still in the shop at the time, and he was asking about a hairline,” said Mann.

When Mann told them the shop was pretty much done for the day, it soon became clear the two men weren`t there for haircuts. He says the two ordered everyone on the floor, and not only robbed both of the shop’s barbers, but their customers too.

“One guy lost a whole paycheck. Me, myself, they took at least 5 [hundred} in cash out of my pocket. “Cellphones, keys, we pretty much had to get our cars towed,” said Mann.

What makes the incident even harder to accept is that Mann says one of the robbers had been a customer there for about a year-and-a-half. Since he hasn`t been charged FOX 4 isn’t showing his face.

“It`s very uneasy just knowing that people just portray themselves as good people, or good friends and learn so much about you,” said Mann.

Looking ahead, Mann plans to stay positive, and stay at his current location despite this being the second time his shop has been robbed.

“It`s kind of hard to want to walk away when I just spend so much wanting to get inside this building.”

Mann says he’s been at the location for two years and just this month took possession of the space from the previous owner. Police have only released that they`re looking for two black males. If you know anything about the robbery call police or the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.
