KCMO Mounted Patrol opens doors to the public

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — People around the metro got an opportunity to meet some special members of the Kansas City Missouri Police Department on Sunday.

For members of the police department and their families, as well as for the public and kids in the area, Sunday was a day full of family fun as they met the members of the Kansas City Missouri Mounted Patrol.

The Friends of the Kansas City Missouri Mounted Patrol helped raise money for the patrol all year, and Sunday’s event at Swope Park gave the public a chance to see the horses up close.

Officers said the horses patrol daily in high crime areas throughout the metro.

“They’re a tower of police visibility, so as far as crime deterrent a police officer on a horse sticks out like a sore thumb, so there’s that crime deterrent from a visibility standpoint,” said a KCMO police officer.

The mounted patrol open house is an annual event.
