Standoff ends; burglary suspect taken into custody in KCMO

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police say a standoff near Jackson Ave. and Anderson, which was responsible for blocking a neighborhood street for several hours, has ended in an arrest.

The standoff began at about 7:00 a.m. A man got caught breaking into a house, but when police showed up, he refused to come out.

Members of the tactical unit were called in at about 8:30 a.m., and arrived wearing bulletproof vests.

At one point, neighbors say the man climbed onto the roof of the house, and claim he was trying to jump from one roof to another to get away, but it didn’t work.

It’s unknown why the man broke into the house, but neighbors believe he was looking for copper.

Police, fire and ambulance  were all on the scene. Police said the incident concluded without escalation.

The man was arrested three and a half hours after the standoff started, around 10:30 a.m. No injuries were reported according to police.
