KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Three suspects are in custody as of Friday morning after a botched copper burglary. They were caught just before midnight, Thursday.
The suspects set off an automatic AT&T alarm near 40 Highway and Fremont. AT&T reported thieves got away with some cable.
Police called out the helicopter and the K-9 unit to help. The helicopter spotted a SUV parked in a suspicious location inside of Blue Valley Park.
His spotlight led the officers to a white Dodge Durango. The three guys jumped out and took off when officers approached the SUV.
Apparently the suspects were stripping the cable for copper which they would then sell.
Inside the SUV were tools used to cut wire and also a downed cable. They were arrested around 2 a.m. Friday.
One was actually bitten by the K-9 officer but not bad enough to be taken to the hospital.
AT&T has started using alarms on their cables because of the rising crime of cable theft.
