OTTAWA, Kan. — The Kansas Highway Patrol has identified the name of a contract worker who was struck by a man driving a pickup truck in a construction zone along a stretch of Highway 68 in Franklin County, Kan., on Thursday, May 15.
According to authorities, William VanDorn, 62, of Overbrook, Kan., and employed by Emery Sapp & Sons, was injured when a pickup truck driven by William McNish, 73, of Ottawa, Kan., hit him. The Kansas Highway Patrol said McNish didn’t see VanDorn, who was flagging traffic for a separate non-injury accident involving a dump truck.
VanDorn was life flighted to the University of Kansas Hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.
The accident happened around 8:45 a.m. Highway 68 was closed in both directions for about four hours.
