KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Formal charges were filed today against Brian Stidham in Jackson County. Stidham is accused of kidnapping a woman who gave him a ride to a convenience store. faces the following charges: Kidnapping, 1st degree robbery, 2nd degree tampering with a motor vehicle, 3rd degree assault and two counts of armed criminal action.
According to court documents the kidnapping victim said that on Monday, June 3rd she was leaving her grandmother’s home located on the 7500 block of E. 49th Terrace in Kansas City when Stidham approached her for a ride to a Fast Stop. She complied and once they got close to the convenience the victim says the Stidham instructed her to get on the freeway and brandished a silver and black semi-automatic gun at her.
Stidham directed her to drive on Interstate 435 southbound, and made her turn off the freeway at the “Clinton exit.” Once they exited the victim said that Stidham made her trade seats and forced her at gunpoint to take an unidentified pill which Stidham later identified as the ‘date rape drug’. She denied passing out but said that Stidham groped her and searched her like he was searching for a cell phone.
The victim used a cell phone without Stidham’s knowledge and led authorities to an abandoned house in Benton County. Officers from the Benton County and St. Claire County Sheriff’s departments apprehended Stidham and located a .380 Bersa Firestorm with one live round in the chamber and a fully loaded magazine in his pocket, all items that Stidham later claimed as his. The victim denied any injuries from the incident.
Stidham is currently being transported from the Benton County Jail and is held on a $250,000 cash bond.
