Lee’s Summit assistant city manager resigns amid theft charges

LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. — The assistant city manager in Lee’s Summit has resigned his position without comment on pending theft charges against him related to a previous employer.

Daren Fristoe’s resignation is effective Dec. 31.

In November, Fristoe was charged with stealing nearly $121,000 from Coordinating Committee for Automotive Repair, where he was executive director.  CCAR said it discovered the theft when an auditor reviewed its financial records in February 2013.

CCAR is a safety pollution prevention and hazardous materials training company for the motor vehicle industry.

Fristoe is accused of using the money to pay a personal credit card, a personal loan and a telephone account.

Fristoe says he submitted his resignation voluntarily. He was put on paid leave in November.
