KANSAS CITY, Mo. — On Saturday afternoon a special group of non-traditional golfers took a few swings at success during, Alpahpointe’s Junior Blind Golf Clinic.
At the event kids learned about the game and a little about themselves. They got to be golfers for a day living the high life, listening for the sweet sounds of contact.
Fittingly, 18 visually impaired youngsters at Heart of America Golf Academy armed with irons in their hands and smiles on their faces proved they were capable on the course.
Alpahpointe CEO Reinhardt Mabry says often times the limitations put on the blind have nothing to do with their abilities, but rather the expectations of the sighted.
“This lets folks who are sighted be able to see a person who is blind can overcome challenges when given the opportunity,” said Mabry.
There was plenty of opportunity and success for all vision levels.
“We have vision levels from having no real visual acuity, actually not being able to see light, to kids that have some vision,” said Mabry.
With instruction from PGA professionals, these kids have been learning to overcome obstacles.
For these gold club swingers, connecting means confidence and that’s something the Duffers definitely felt and heard.
