Man, 19, gets 2 years probation in plea over rape of 13-year-old girl

OLATHE, Kan. — A 19-year-old Johnson County man was sentenced Wednesday to two years probation, in a case that began with charges that he raped a 13-year-old girl.

Seth Bratten avoided jail time with the plea deal, in which he admitted to aggravated battery. Bratten told the court that he and the girl were dating at the time. She was in middle school. He was in high school in the Blue Valley school district.

She has since become pregnant with Bratten’s child.

The judge sentenced him to the 24-month probation. He is also prohibited from having any contact with the child, except as the result of a civil court order. He also can’t have any contact with the victim.

Neither the victim nor her family attended the sentencing hearing.
