KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Some might call it a sincere display of honesty. A 24-year-old man from Grandview said he found a keepsake with military ties in a local parking lot. Now he’s trying to get the ring returned to its rightful owner!
Alejandro Corchado said he came to a Dollar General store at the 8411 Holmes Road on Friday night, and couldn’t believe his eyes. His wife works as a manager at the store and he’d arrived around 9 p.m. to pick her up from work. When he stepped out of the car, a yellow gold ring was laying on the ground.
“I picked it up and looked at it and said, ‘Someone’s really missing this,’” said Corchado.
“The thing that went through my mind was that someone’s dad might have served in the Army. Maybe it was the last thing he could leave them. They’re probably really missing it,” said Corchado.
Corchado said he’s checked in with the store where his wife works, but they hadn’t had anyone asking about a lost ring.
“It doesn’t have to cost a lot of money, but the sentimental value means a lot to somebody,” said Corchado.
There’s no name on the ring, but it does bear the ‘castle’ logo of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Amy Phillips with the USACE says the ring could belong to anyone, as most facilities offer its staff the option of ordering them from a third-party.
“I try my best every day, with three kids, they have to have someone to look up to. I would expect for them to do the same thing as well,” he said.
Corchado said he’s not looking for a cash reward for the return of the ring. He remembers a favorite uncle who served our nation in the military, and the Army tie to the ring itself tugs at his heartstrings.
The ring has two inscriptions inside. If you can identify them, contact Sean McDowell using this link. He’ll help you get in touch with Corchado.
