Megamillions offers ticket price change

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — If it seems like lottery jackpots are getting bigger and more often, there’s a reason.  Since Powerball changed its ticket prices from $1 to $2, it has boosted payoffs and ticket sales.  And now Megamillions is making changes of its own.

Of course the attention is Powerball’s $400 million current jackpot, which is the fifth largest so far. But Megamillions still holds the record back in March of 2012 with the largest jackpot in U.S. history at $656 million.

Beginning with Megamillion’s October 22 lottery, they will now offer an extra $1 option, which will allow an increase in the secondary payout.

Megamillions and Powerball are sold side-by-side because of a 2010 licensing agreement.
