Metro family reunited with missing pet after she appeared on FOX 4 Morning show

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – It was a Valentine’s Day reunion like none other, between a dog and her family.

An Overland Park family was heartbroken when their dog, Sadie, escaped back in September. They couldn’t believe their eyes when they spotted Sadie on FOX 4 News Saturday morning. The Great Plains SPCA had her up for adoption, and had no idea she had a family who was looking for her.

“I just knew from that little mark on the side of her face there and just the way she was standing there I knew it was her,” said Mary Spohn, the dog’s owner.

Spohn and her family went straight to the SPCA before it opened Saturday morning for a Valentine’s Day reunion with their beloved Sadie.

“Her tail was wagging and everything,” Spohn said. “They took a picture of us there and she was licking my face.”

Spohn said Sadie is very special to her because she belonged to her son, Joe Spohn, who died of cancer five months ago.

“She was beside him all the time and laid there until the end,” she said.

Spohn said her son adopted Sadie more than a decade ago from the very shelter she was picked up from Saturday morning, and spent the past two months at.
