KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An independent auditor will perform random price checks at Walgreen Co. stores around Missouri for the next three years under a legal agreement the company has reached with the state.
Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster announced Wednesday that Walgreen will pay for the audits and will be fined if the auditor finds discrepancies between advertised prices on Walgreen’s merchandise and prices at the register.
Koster’s announcement comes less than a year after Missouri filed a lawsuit in Jackson County court accusing the Chicago-based drugstore chain of overcharging customers and using deceptive pricing schemes. Walgreen has settled pricing practice lawsuits with California and Wisconsin.
Walgreen spokesman Jim Graham says the company is “pleased” to have reached an agreement that allows it “to continue to operate within our previously established business practices.”
