Missouri Western and St. Joseph community rally to raise funds for student paralyzed in crash

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — A community is rallying around a young man who was paralyzed in a car crash a few weeks ago.

Missouri Western and the St. Joseph community recently started an effort to raise funds for Deandre Hobbs who is a student at Missouri Western, KQTV reports.

Hobbs was in a crash a few weeks ago and had been recovering in the hospital in St. Joe but recently started rehab in St. Louis, which is where he’s from.

KQTV also reports that his mom recently had brain surgery, and she’s still recovering, as well.

“He really wants to find a way to physically get back here but also to continue on with some of his studies as much as he can while he’s in the rehab area in St. Louis,” Dr. Judy Grimes of MWSU told KQTV.

The school is taking donations through a GoFundMe account to not only help out the family but make his home more handicap accessible.

So far, they’ve raised more than $5,000. Click here if you would like to donate.
