ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — The prosecuting attorney in Buchanan County on Friday charged the 24-year-old mother of a toddler killed when she crashed into a snow plow with a felony count of endangering the welfare of a child.
Prosecutors say on January 6, Alicca Williams operated her 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix in a careless manner and in doing so killed her 20-month old son, Kaiber Williams, who was not in a car seat.
They say she was driving too fast for the road conditions on Route C east of St. Joseph, Mo. in Buchanan County.
According to the probable cause statement, Alicca did not have valid insurance on the vehicle and had previously pleaded guilty to charges of careless and imprudent driving for a motor vehicle crash she caused in 2010. The document says she was on probation and her license suspended for previous traffic violations.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol accident report said Williams lost control of her car, crossed the center line and hit the snow plow. The report indicated the roads were covered with snow and ice at the time of the crash.
Bond was set at $30,000 cash.
