COLUMBIA – MU Chancellor Brady J. Deaton has announced he is retiring from his position on November 15, 2013 during a press conference on Wednesday afternoon.
“I am extraordinarily honored and privileged to have led the University of Missouri through the last nine years of exciting, eventful and rewarding times,” Deaton said in a press release from the University of Missouri News Bureau.
The release also said that Deaton will continue to serve as ‘chancellor emeritus’ with a focus on international development for the university.
Some highlights of Deaton’s tenure at the university include:
Since 2004, total enrollment grew at the University of Missouri by 7,745 students and minority enrollment rose by 113%
The school’s endowment effort ‘For All We Call Mizzou’ was increased to a $1 billion dollar goal in 2005 and was eclipsed one month before deadline in 2008.
MU opened 21 new buildings and renovated 13 others. The school also joined the Southeastern Conference in athletics in 2012, leaving the Big 12 Conference.
