SAN FRANCISCO — Ned Yost, Royals manager, was asked Thursday in San Francisco about the adjective often used to describe him:
You know the one: “Stupid”.
You’ve heard it said, “We’ve been ‘Yosted’ again.”
His response:
“”I don’t account for it. I don’t care about it. You know what? I understand how this game is. I know that if something good happens, I’m going to look smart. My players won a ballgame yesterday… you know what I did? Nothing. I took Hererra and put him in the ballgame in the sixth inning and if that makes me a genius, then I’m a genius. But you know what? If I’d have taken Ventura out of that game and brought in Kelvin and he gave up a three-game homer I would have been a dope. Right. So I don’t really pay attention to when people say I’m stupid and I don’t really pay attention to when people say I’m smart because, you know what? I’m neither. I’m not a dope but I’m not the smartest guy on the face of the earth either.”
