New $4.5 million Ronald McDonald House coming to KC

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Friday morning, Ronald McDonald Charities will break ground on a new Ronald McDonald House in Kansas City, Mo.

The new house will be located near the others, at 25th and Cherry. It will be 21,000-square feet and will contain several bedrooms, living room space, private bathrooms, a kitchen and dining areas.  It is expected to house about 900 families each year.

“These are families that live outside the Kansas City area and would be sleeping in their car, would be racking up a bill at a local hotel because there’s no place for them to stay,” said Holly Buckendahl, Ronald McDonald House chief executive officer.

Ronald McDonald Charities said the new home is needed because more than 1,000 families were turned away in 2012 because the two current Ronald McDonald homes were full.

To date, $3.9 million of the total $4.5 million has been raised for the house.
