Newly registered voters say they are in the minority in their age group

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Some of the voters at the primaries coming up on Tuesday will be new voters; those who’ve turned 18 since the last election.

As FOX 4 spoke to these newly-registered voters, our crew found out, they’re in the minority among their peers since many they know in that newly turned 18, age group aren’t registered voters.

This group of young voters says they think others their age don’t register because they’re apathetic and cynical about the voting process.

“It’s like, if I am going to vote, someone has to tell my why should I care, why does this matter, what’s the end game of this for me?” said Paul Lisbon, a student at George Washington University.

“And they don’t think their vote matters. And to me it does matter because how can you make a difference if you don’t vote?” said St. Olaf College student Scott Johnson.

The young voters say they are having a little difficulty navigating through all the state and local elections.

They think the national elections seem to be a little less confusing.
