KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City, Mo. Police Department swept through the Northland this morning, looking for synthetic drugs.
They caught two businesses, Discount Smokes on NE Vivion and the Shell Station on the corner of Vivion and Antioch, selling narcotics such as “plant food,” “syn,” “K2” and “bath salts”.
Police arrested four store employees, who now face multiple charges for selling the drugs.
KCPD Captain Chelly Pfeifer said police warned both stores multiple times in the past, but managers failed to remove the illegal drugs from their stores.
“They were presented with letters from the Clay County prosecutor outlining that the substances were illegal,” said Pfeifer in a statement.
Police recovered more than 1,100 grams of the synthetic drugs, totaling several thousands of dollars. They also found a firearm in the bust.
Sgt. Brad Dumit of the KCPD Vice Squad says that he wants Friday’s busts to convey the message to stores that selling synthetic drugs will not be tolerated.
“We want to send the message that selling these things is illegal,” said Dumit. “It’s illegal to possess it, distribute it and sell it.”
