One man dead following early morning apartment fire in Overland Park

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — One man is dead following an apartment fire Monday morning.

The fire occurred at an apartment complex near 59th and Robinson in Overland Park, Kan. Firefighters said the victim is a man in his 70s.

A neighbor who lives across the hall from the victim woke up to the smell of smoke around 4 a.m. She called 911 and ran outside.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the victim’s apartment. Neighbors of the man said he’d lived in the building for over 10 years. He was a choreographer in Las Vegas who had moved to Overland Park to help take care of his late father. After his father passed the man remained in the area.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
