KANSAS CITY, Mo. – One of the men accused of killing a Kansas City teenager accepted a plea agreement for the murder of Alexis Kane, found murdered in January 2015 at a south Kansas City water park.
Dominic McDaniel, 19, was indicted by a grand jury on First Degree Murder and Armed Criminal Action, along with two other teens. On Monday, McDaniel pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and armed criminal action. He’ll be sentenced at a future date and faces 15 years in prison.
Isaac “Malik” Carter, 18, and Ce-Antonyo D. Kennedy, 18, are also accused of Kane’s murder. They are set for trial later this year.
Prosecutors say Carter, Kennedy and McDaniel hit Alexis in the face with a handgun and then passed it around, taking turns shooting her multiple times.
Shortly after the murder, Jackson County prosecutors called it senseless and couldn’t pinpoint a motive for Alexis’ death –only saying she was Facebook chatting with one of the suspects and had arranged to meet up with his group at a nearby gas station before she was killed.
All three men originally pleaded not-guilty and waived the reading of the indictment.
Kane was the oldest of five children and was also an eighth grader at Smith-Hale Middle School. Kane’s family had called for the death penalty.
