People Line Up for Powerball Jackpot

RIVERSIDE, Mo. — People flooded metro convenience stores to buy lottery tickets for the big jackpot on Saturday. The $325 million prize caused long lines all across the metro.

A customer told FOX 4 that it doesn’t matter that the price of lottery tickets went up because there’s so much money on the line. Lottery sellers say they saw swarms of people on Saturday. The jackpot for Saturday’s lottery was one of the largest in U.S. History. It was the third largest Powerball payout.

Red X in Riverside says their business tripled over the last few days. Workers there tell FOX 4 it was busier than it has been for lottery sales in over a year. Many of the customers are regular players, but the $325 million prize led a lot of people who typically don’t gamble. Those people decided to roll the dice and fork over the cash.

Lottery tickets increased from $1 to $2 in January. Lottery sellers say people may be cutting back slightly on the number of tickets they buy, but they’re not spending less money. In fact, Red X says early indications are that overall, people are spending more on Powerball since the ticket price doubled.

The winning numbers were: 1-10-37-52-57 and Powerball 11.
