DETROIT — Police say they are trying to determine if two brothers stole the coffin of their 92-year-old father believing they could resurrect his body.
Police found the man’s body frozen and unharmed in a freezer Tuesday in the basement of a home of one of his two sons, Detroit News reported.
Officers say the story unfolded when the coffin was stolen from a Detroit-area mausoleum early Monday morning. According to police, they found a van with a coffin in the back, but without a body inside.
Police say they found a pillow from inside the casket in the backyard of the son’s home.
It appears the one son was so distraught over his father’s death that he believed he could resurrect his father through prayer, the paper reported.
The men could be charged with disinterment, a felony punishable with up to 10 years in prison. Police could seek a forensic examination of the men to determine whether they should be charged, the paper said.
