KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police arrested a man and a woman at about noon on Monday after police say they sped away from them on I-70 near I-435, and tossed evidence from the car while they fled.
After about 20 minutes, most of the time on the highway, but at least once winding through neighborhood streets in Independence, the chase ended at I-70 near Prospect when police disabled the car with stop sticks.
Police said the chase started after an officer recognized the man or the vehicle suspected in an aggravated shooting. It’s unclear when that shooting occurred.
“Is it something we need to keep chasing now or is it okay to let them go and catch them another day? Obviously a violent felon, we don’t want to let them go,” explained Capt. Tye Grant, KCMO Police, about the decision to pursue the suspects. “We don’t want them to have the opportunity to shoot someone else.”
Police stopped the car in the westbound lanes of the interstate, causing traffic to back up around 11:45 a.m. Police say they found a gun inside the vehicle. They say the items tossed from the vehicle included clothing and a magazine to a gun.
