Police find vehicle they believe was used in drive-by shooting that killed Machole Stewart

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Investigators got a big breakthrough Thursday in the murder case of a 10-year-old metro girl, as they believe they’ve found the vehicle used in the Kansas City, Kan., drive-by shooting that killed Machole Stewart in October.

As detectives process the vehicle for evidence, they also have several people they want to question about the case, according to Lieutenant Colonel Vince Davenport with KCK police.

Those developments, as well as arrests this week in a different drive-by shooting that left 6-year-old Angel Hooper dead in Kansas City, Mo., give the Stewart family renewed hope.

“It makes you happy to know that if they found her killers, they going to find the killers for Machole,” said Machole’s grandmother, Kimberly Blackmon, of the arrests and murder charges for two men in Angel’s case.

Added Machole’s older brother, Lionel Simpson, “It’s good to hear they did something, and I hope the police in this neighborhood would do something and try to help Machole, but only time will tell. We’ll see.”

Their hopes were strengthened Wednesday by news of recent developments in Machole’s murder.

“Hopefully, I think they’re going to solve the case,” Lionel said.

Until that happens, Blackmon has one last plea for someone to come forward.

“Please whoever you are, please turn yourself in,” she said, “because you’re going to get caught and we’re not going to stop until you get caught.”

Lt. Col. Davenport said they still need the community’s help.

“I cannot overstate the value of tips received via the TIPS Hotline on this case,” he said.
