KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A six-year-old girl was killed Friday night after she was shot outside of a gas station in south Kansas City.
Captain Tye Grant, with the Kansas City Missouri Police Department, said Angel Hooper died Friday night at an area hospital. He said information received by the police department indicates a vehicle drove by the 7-Eleven gas station at 10615 Blue Ridge Boulevard and began shooting multiple rounds into the parking lot. The shooting happened around 8:00 p.m.
Police said the little girl had just walked out of the gas station when she was shot.
On Saturday, Hooper’s mother, Charity Guinn, returned to the scene.
“She was a sweet little girl and she didn’t deserve this at all,” Guinn said. “I just want anybody who knows anything to speak up because it’s not fair, I did not deserve to lose my daughter.”
Guinn said her daughter went to the gas station with her father to get some bubble gum.
“On their way out of the store someone pulled in and just opened fire,” Guinn said.
Guinn said she almost couldn’t drive by the 7-Eleven Saturday because it was too hard. She said she wants whoever killed her daughter to step forward.
“Whoever did this, if you are out there, just please step forward,” Guinn said. “I don’t know if you have children, or have loved ones, but this is hard. I wouldn’t want anyone in my shoes right now.”
Hooper’s grandmother also came to the scene on Saturday.
“We’re going to have to put a stop to these guns,” Marie Guinn said.” We’re going to have to get these guns out of these young people’s hands, and stop killing all of our young children.”
Friday, police interviewed witnesses who were at the gas station when the shooting happened. Police are asking the suspects to turn themselves in because they do not believe the little girl was the intended victim. During the investigation police were not letting anybody inside the gas station parking lot leave.
