Teen in custody after early morning standoff

EDWARDSVILLE, Kan. — Police were involved in a standoff Tuesday morning in Edwardsville, Kan.

According to Kansas City, Kan., police, officers were called to an apartment in the 400 block of Riverfalls Rd. around 2:30 a.m.

Officers said it began as an argument between a 19-year-old man and his 17-year-old girlfriend. The man took her to his brother’s apartment, where police were for several hours. The man’s brother is not inside the apartment with them.

Police said the suspect didn’t come out and wouldn’t talk to police until they went in with a search warrant. Witnesses said they saw him grab his 17-year-old girlfriend as she was screaming for help. Police said the 19-year-old was taken into custody after they found him and his girlfriend inside a locked bedroom. The girl was not hurt.

Edwardsville is about 19 miles west of Kansas City, Mo.
