Man, 24, dead in shooting in 2700 block of Linwood Blvd., suspect turns himself in

Police in Kansas City, Mo., were dispatched to an apartment complex Sunday afternoon after hearing reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they found one man suffering from gunshot wounds. The man later died at a local hospital.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police are investigating the events that led to a shooting death Sunday afternoon.

Authorities were called to an apartment building in the 2700 block of Linwood Boulevard at 2:45 pm to investigate a reported shooting.  When officers arrived they found a male victim, described as in his early 20s, shot inside an apartment.

The victim was taken to an area hospital where he later died from his injuries.  On Monday, he was identified as William Verner, 24.

Witnesses told police that the suspect and the victim were involved in a dispute when the victim was shot.  The suspect left the scene on foot.

The suspect was taken into custody around 4:15 p.m. at the Metro Patrol Station after he turned himself in.

Police identified the victim as William Verner, 24, of Kansas City, Mo. They have not released the suspect’s name at this time.
