Man gunned down on porch identified

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police have identified the 18-year-old man who was gunned down on his porch Thursday night in the 6900 block of Bellefontaine in Kansas City, Mo. Police said Deion J. Solomon was killed around 9:30 p.m. after someone drove by and opened fire while Solomon was standing outside on a porch.

Before police arrived at the scene, Solomon had already been taken to the hospital in a private vehicle where he was pronounced dead. A woman on Friday told FOX 4’s Megan Dillard she and her daughter called 911 on separate cell phones to report the shooting. She says both were placed on hold for three minutes. That’s when she decided to take Solomon to the hospital herself.

According to Kansas City Missouri Police Captain Tye Grant, calls can sometimes be placed on hold if other calls in the area are coming in at the same time. However 911 dispatch records indicate the call center received only a single call regarding the shooting incident. The call disconnected in less than a minute. Dispatchers called the number back, but said the victim was already being transported to the hospital by private means.

According to witnesses, Solomon was standing on the front porch when a black car drove past and people began shooting. FOX 4’s Megan Dillard said bullet holes riddled the home and porch, which can be seen in the pictures below.

Police haven’t developed full descriptions of the suspects or the car yet.

Anyone with information is urged to call the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS (8477). All calls are anonymous.
