Police: Two men say they were shot while driving on interstate

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. — Blue Springs police are investigating a man’s report that he was shot while driving westbound on I-70 at Woods Chapel Road at 8:25 p.m. Tuesday night.

The 26-year-old man told police he was taking the Woods Chapel exit when he heard several loud pops. He says he stopped on the ramp to check to see if he had blown a tire. Then, he says, he felt a pain in his leg and saw that he had been shot. He went to the hospital, but the injuries were not severe.

“We don’t have any witnesses at this time,” said Sgt. Joe Fanara. “We don’t have anything that would lead us to where the shots came from if it’s a passing motorist or a person on the side of the road.”

About 10 minutes later, police in Lee’s Summit responded to a call near I-70 and Colbern Road after a 37-year-old man said his vehicle had been shot. The man was not injured, but officers did discover a single bullet hole in the back of his car.

Police could not yet determine if the two incidents were related.
