KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Wyandotte County District Attorney charged DeAndrea J. Goodwin, 21, with one count of child abuse in connection with the April 6 death of a one-year-old child.
Police said in the early morning hours on Sunday, April 6, they responded to a residence in the 600 block of South 71st Terrace in Kansas City, Kan. When officers arrived, they located a one-year-old boy lying unresponsive on the floor inside an apartment. The boy was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Neighbors have addressed the incident, hoping for justice for the little boy.
“He was saying that he had bruises on him and he was bleeding out of his mouth,” one neighbor said. “It was really upsetting to us. We sit there and watched the paramedics and everybody come. They carried him out, we couldn’t tell at the time he was dead at all.”
At the time of the incident, the mother of the child was not home. The child was in the care of Goodwin.
