SHAWNEE, Kan. — In the moments before a fatal January 9 shootout at She’s A Pistol gun shop in Shawnee, court documents describe that co-owner Becky Bieker was showing a gun to a man before three others entered the shop. The shootout ensued, and all four men were charged with first-degree murder after the other co-owner, Jon Bieker, was killed by gunfire.
Police say that De’Anthony Wiley, who was looking at the gun with Becky, and Londro Patterson were seen on surveillance video pointing guns at her after all four suspects were inside the shop, according to reports taken by Shawnee police officers and detectives.
She raised her hands, and at that point police say another suspect, Nicquan Midgyett, jumped over the counter and hit her before being turned back by Jon, who emerged from a back room shooting a gun.
Three of the suspects then ran out of the shop, two of them hit by gunfire, and Wiley dropped to the floor after being shot. Jon is reportedly seen on surveillance coming from around the counter towards Wiley when he was shot in the leg, but continued to shoot in Wiley’s direction. Jon was later taken to a hospital in critical condition where he died.
Patterson was found by police crawling in the store’s parking lot with multiple gun shot wounds. He was taken to a hospital, but treated and released before being booked in the Johnson County Detention Center.
Midgyett and the fourth suspect, Hakeem Malik, were found at a nearby home after a woman called 911 to report someone banging on her back porch door.
During Malik’s interview with police, he said he was picked up by Wiley with the intention to go look at guns. He said there were two unknown men with Wiley, but Midgyett contradicted that when he told police that Wiley had also picked him up with his friends “Keem” and “Landro.” Malik was found with Midgyett at the Shawnee home and taken straight to jail because he hadn’t been injured. He described that someone jumped over the counter, followed by gun fire, causing him to run out of the store.
Midgyett told police he had gone into She’s A Pistol with only a bookbag and wanted to grab a gun and leave. He said after shots were fired he yelled, “I give up,” and fled, but not before he was shot in the back. He was treated, discharged and booked into jail.
Wiley is the only suspect who hasn’t been booked yet, court documents describe that his injuries required extensive surgery and he was placed in a medically-induced coma. The other three suspects are in jail being held on $500,000 bonds and have their next court appearances set for April 20.
