Police Seek Suspect in Triple Homicide

INDEPENDENCE, Mo — Authorities are looking for a suspect in connection to a triple homicide in an Independence home late last week.

Antonio Cervantes III, 32, is suspected in the shooting death of 48-year-old Maria Hernandez, her son, Antonio Hernandez, 19, and Tomas Dominguez, boyfriend of Maria, in an early-morning home invasion robbery at a home in the 1500 block of S. Pope Street in Independence on Friday. Today police still remained outside the home.

A fourth victim, identified by family members as a 16-year-old boy, was seriously wounded in the shooting. He was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Authorities say that Cervantes knew the victims, and that the shooting was not a random event and likely drug-related. Police are also looking for a second suspect, but have not provided a name or description.

Cervantes is described as 5’ 7”, 140 lbs., with brown eyes and black hair. Authorities say that anyone with information about the shooting or the whereabouts of Cervantes is asked to call 911, the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS or the Independence Police Department at (816) 836-3600.
