Prairie Village Police Say Burglaries On the Rise

PRAIRIE VILLAGE, Kan. — Police are giving a word of warning to Prairie Village residents, as burglars are making the rounds already in 2013.

According to authorities, the city has seen a spike in burglaries and attempted burglaries, with 10 reported so far.

“Mostly iPads, computers, televisions, also cash and credit cards,” said Captain Wes Lovett of the Prairie Village Police Department.

Lovett says that people have heard all the advice about how to not become a victim of burglary, but he says that everyone can use a refresher on the basics.

“Make sure lights are on inside and out, doors locked and don’t leave things out like mail and newspapers,” said Lovett, who adds that you should keep an eye on your neighbors house as well.

Lovett also says to not be surprised if you see a few more police cars out on patrol as well.

“There’s a slight pattern so far on certain days doing these burglaries and certain times,” said Lovett. “So right now (we’re) looking into that making sure we have extra patrols out at those times.”
