R.B.I. Cancels Afternoon Games Due to Heat

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – While R.B.I. games were being played today in Kansas City, some changes were made in the schedule. It was just too hot for the kids to play in the middle of the afternoon, and All-Star fans just here to check out the sights agreed, the heat is cooling down excitement over outdoor activities.

Die-hard Cardinals fan, Amy Willoughby couldn’t wait to check out the All-Star events, but Saturday morning, her excitement was melting due to the heat.

“It makes events like this that you look forward to not as fun,” she said.  “I’m ready for it to break.”

Throughout the concrete-coated avenues of downtown, were vendors selling cold drinks and people needing to stop under some shade.  That’s why R.B.I. teams cancelled the afternoon games and instead went swimming, then to Fan Fest.

Even at the morning games, kids were relieved to get out of the heat, drink some water, and cool down with misting fans.

“Everyone’s been good with trying to keep us cool and providing drinks and keeping them out of the sun in the afternoons and stuff,” said Todd Erskine, a coach from the Toronto Bluejays.

Even though the heat is oppressive, there are ways to beat it, and these kids have the right idea with staying in the pool.  R.B.I. games will be played in the evening, it’s just the afternoon games that were cancelled.
