Records shine more light on Krug Park homicide, say victim was lured to secluded location and stabbed

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Court documents now give more information on the murder of a teenage girl in Krug Park on Oct. 16.

Police arrested two people in connection with the murder on Sunday.

Sebastian D. Dowell

18-year-old Sebastian Dudley Dowell was charged with second degree murder in the death of 17-year-old Kaytlin Root. Another person, a female juvenile, was also arrested.

Records say Dowell and the juvenile lured Root to meet them at a location in St. Joseph. The three drove around for a while and eventually went to Krug Park.

Court documents note that Root was “urged not to tell anyone who she was meeting.” Once at Krug Park, the they walked to a secluded area where Root was rendered unconscious.

Prosecutors said Root was “stabbed or cut more than twice” and died of those injuries.

If convicted, Dowell faces 10-30 years or life imprisonment. A judge denied Dowell a bond in this case.
