KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Vandals spray painted vulgar messages on the outside of a Kansas City, Kan., church over the weekend, and the pastor says he was the intended target.
Police responded to Strangers Rest Baptist Church, 2052 N. 5th St., to take pictures and file a report. The pastor of the church says he’s been targeted and harassed before and believes he know who is responsible for the vandalism.
“It’s street language directed toward me and I am angered, if you will, that it would appear here at the church,” said Reverend Banks.
Reverend Banks has been pastor at the church for the past 20 years. He said while he’s been a target before, his church has not.
“Personally, I’ve been harassed. This is the first time that anybody has provoked us or provoked me rather to this extent,” he said. “For anyone to do this in this community I think it’s an outrage.”
The vulgar messages misspell Reverend Banks’ name on the front and side entrances of the church.
“I don’t think there’s any sanity involved with whatever this person is doing,” he said.
