Samsung launches Galaxy S5 smartphone

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) — Samsung’s Galaxy S5 is here, and it’s surprise-free.

That’s pretty much what Samsung hinted at — and what the tech world had expected: an improved, but not radically different successor to last year’s Galaxy S4.

The phone again follows Samsung’s tradition of increasing the screen size, this time to 5.1 inches — but not at the expense of the overall size of the phone.

Running on a beefed up, quad-core processor with 2 gigabytes of RAM, the Galaxy S5 also has a 16 megapixel camera.

The most noticeable new feature may be the addition of a heart rate sensor and a fingerprint scanner in the home button. It also is water and dust resistant.

Additionally, the phone is slimmer, lighter, and has a better performing battery over last year’s model — although the gains in each of these category are incremental.

Samsung said the Galaxy S5 would be available in April.
