SHAWNEE, Kan. — A local gun shop is moving to a new location nearly a year after one of the owners was shot to death.
“She’s A Pistol” opened at 64th and Quivira road this week just over a mile from the original space.
The owner, Becky Bieker, says moving to a larger space was always part of the plan.
Becky says her business continues to grow thanks to support from the community.
She and her husband, Jon, opened their first location at 57th and Nieman road a few years ago, and started looking for a new, more functional space late last year.
But in January, four armed robbers entered the store and opened fire and Jon was killed.
Jon was shot at least four times while protecting Becky and their business.
Becky says even though moving to a larger space was always part of the plan, given what happened earlier this year, now was the right time.
“You’re going to see what happened when you walk through that door every time,” Becky said. “The repairs were made, the paint was fixed, things like that. But you still see what happened. You have those memories. Yes, every time I walk through the door I can see that, but at the same time, I had amazing staff supporting me and amazing family and friends and the community.”
The official grand opening for the new location of “she’s a pistol” is set for Nov. 13 and 14.
The four armed robbers accused of killing Jon will go back to court in December and Becky says she plans to be there.
