Sibilings Separated as Children Connect Through Facebook

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two Missouri sisters met their biological brother for the first time on Wednesday. The women didn’t even know they had a brother when they were growing up.

The siblings previously knew each other through Facebook. On Wednesday, 41-year-old Michael Leonard traveled from Los Angeles to Kansas City specifically to meet his biological twin sisters. The girls had been adopted together at birth more than 40 years ago and moved to Missouri.

“It’s the day I’ve been waiting for, for a long time,” said Michael Leonard. “I know when I found out that I had biological sisters, I was around the age of 10 or 11. I overheard it in the middle of the night. My mother was talking to someone.”

He’s never really known his sisters until he started talking with them through Facebook which started around three years ago. The twins, 43-year-old Vicki Thomspson from Belton and Valerie Baker from Springfield both work as nurses.

Once the siblings were reunited they found a common connection.

“In 2007 I decided to change careers go into nursing field, Leonard said. “I have since decided I no longer want to be a nurse, they work too hard.”

Leonard and his sisters plan to spend the rest of the week getting to know each other better. They all say they hope this is the beginning of regular visits among family members who want to be closer.
