KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A sinkhole in the West Bottoms is causing problems for motorists.
The sinkhole is located in the eastbound lane of Union Ave., between Hickory and Mulberry streets in the West Bottoms. Small cones and a yellow newspaper stand have been placed in the road to warn drivers.
A FOX 4 viewer who works in area said the sinkhole was first spotted Monday or Tuesday. She said prior to the cones being placed in the road, someone drove into it. Now, people who work in the area are growing more concerned as the hole appears to be getting bigger.
“When I went down yesterday morning, somebody parked right next to it, so I told him to move his car because people were losing control of their cars that come out of it,” said Jennifer Pauley. who has been watching the sinkhole.
FOX 4 spoke to city officials, and was told they are aware of the situation and has been working on it all day.
“This is pretty much where our city was born and raised, so we’re proactively replacing those lines and if they fail with the growing commerce in the area we know it’s a pretty impactful break,” Jennifer Kincaid with KCMO Water’s media relations said.
