KANSAS CITY, Kan. — The sister of two teens who were hit by a car on Troup Avenue more than a week ago said the teens are still recovering at St. Luke’s Hospital. Desiree Golden said her two little sisters were two of the four teenagers who were hit by the car.
“When I am at work it’s always on my mind, I need to get back to the hospital.” Golden told FOX 4 on Saturday. “It is hard for me to leave the hospital once I am there with my sisters; I know my sisters need me.”
Tamika Pledger is charged with four counts of reckless aggravated battery. Police say she was driving the car that hit the teens. Pledger is a community activist and unified government commissioner candidate.
Golden told FOX 4 neither of her little sisters can walk because they both have broken legs from the accident. She said her youngest sister, 14-year-old Brandi Glover has broken legs, a broken arm and a shattered wrist. Golden said her other sister, 16-year-old Essence Robinson also has a broken leg.
“It is hard to see her cry every day because she can’t move, she can’t do anything,” Golden said.
Golden said her youngest sister, Brandi, aches to get back outside and play sports, but she fears she might not be able to again.
“She was into volleyball, basketball, soccer and she was going to run track,” Golden said.

The Wyandotte County District Attorney said there is no evidence that Pledger intentionally targeted anyone or a specific teen. Pledger declined an interview with FOX 4 and said she isn’t allowed to speak with media because of legal issues. She is due in court on Tuesday.
