Six-year-old Kansas girl’s hair set on fire while playing in the backyard

TOPEKA, Kan. — A young girl is in the hospital after somebody allegedly set her hair on fire while she and her brother were playing in the backyard KSNT reported.

The suspect was cutting through an alley next to the home and called six-year-old Jayden  Beddo over to the fence. The suspect allegedly then proceeded to light a cigarette and then lit the six-year-old’s hair on fire.

Jayden’s brother Christopher ran to get help from his uncle who was inside of the house, according to KSNT.

“I ran out the back door to see my niece’s head completely engulfed in flames,” George Hearne, Jayden’s uncle told KSNT.

Hearne said he put the fire out and called for help.

Jayden was transported a local hospital but later transferred to an intensive care unit at another hospital to continue being treated for burns.

Hearnes reported that the six-year-old suffered third degree burns that cover 70 percent of the top of her head.

Police said they are still searching for the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (785) 234-0007. Jayden’s uncle created a Go Fund Me page for the six-year-old and her family.
